This artist retired from education in 1991, moved to Myrtle Beach,
SC, and studied art in various media. Hoopes has taken art classes
at OU, Springmaid Artist Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC, and has
had six years of private instruction. |
When she returned to the area in 1998 she was able
to fulfill her dream of having her own studio and gallery. Hoopes offers
the studio as a retreat, free of charge, to other artists for up to two
weeks.

arts organization dedicated to preserving, advancing and celebrating
the paper and book arts to support economic development and to enrich
the southeastern Ohio community. Paper Circle is located on Nelsonville’s

Old Bear’s Den
Nature Photography Workshop and Educational Center
This establishment was founded to provide practical and useable knowledge
in nature photography. All instructors are experienced professional
photographers, many of whom do workshops throughout the country. These
artists teach both groups and individuals, in all cases working closely
with each individual student. Instruction is fitted to the skill level
of the participant. Loft space in the center is available for up to
eight overnight guests.

The Pottery at Old St. Pius
Cindy Yeager and Joel Yeager

The Yeagers live and work in
a 1908 former Catholic Church. Joel’s wood kiln climbs the
hill out back and both artists have studios in the choir loft. A
retail space will be open in the near future.
Cindy Yeager’s primitive stained glass pieces have been shown
in the Women in Appalachia Art Exhibit, Ohio University-Zanesville.
Her pieces are sold locally at selected festivals and at Great Expectations
Book Store in Logan, Ava’s Jewelers in Lancaster, The Dairy
Barn in Athens, and Foothills School of American Crafts in Nelsonville.Several
of her works are on display and for sale through August 30 at The
Bowen House, 196 N. Market St. in Logan, OH. |
Cindy Yeager is a 15-year instructor in the
college of arts and sciences at Hocking College and also works out of
her own studio, A Mother’s Work.
Joel Yeager, a sculptor and potter, is director of the Rendville Folk
Art Collective, where local artists with and without disabilities gather
to create large and colorful works. Mr. Yeager’s personal work
includes paintings and striking hand-built ceramics. His work also has
been shown at Ohio University Lancaster and this year’s Starbrick
National Clay Exhibition. He currently has works on exhibit at Ohio
University’s Lancaster, Ohio, campus in conjunction with the Tony
Davenport Memorial Exhibit. He also is exhibiting currently at The Bowen
House.

Trisha Clifford-Sprouse
Trisha is an artist and educator whose mission
is to foster the discovery of talents in others as well as to teach
them about the use of arts as a tool of self-expression and a path to
peace. In Trisha’s current paintings, she has been exploring visual
relationships using the elements of color, music and text. She believes
that each of these has symbolic meaning when taken separately but tell
a deeper story when placed in context with the other two elements. Trisha
has a BFA in fashion design and painting from Columbus College of Art
and Design and currently is assistant director for education at the
Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in Lancaster, Ohio. Her art has been
included in publications of United Methodist Publishing and in the book,
Geometric Design in Ohio Quilts, an integrated math, art, social studies
and language arts curriculum used in Ohio schools

Kathy Murphy
Painting in acrylic and oil on stretched canvases,
Kathy works primarily from life, drawing on nature for subject matter.
Moved by a deep love of gardening, she paints in a stylized way and
from a unique perspective to inspire the viewer to take a closer look
at the shapes, rhythms and sensuality of plants and flowers. Kathy’s
work is influenced by the art of Georgia O’Keeffe and other more
contemporary artists. she also is a graphic designer and writes on gardening
topics for the Logan (Ohio) Daily News.
